After participating in a Development Experience, Willem Horstmann was touched by the difference a person or organization can make by sharing his knowledge. Working for AEGON, Willem was motivated to set up a leadership program that would contribute to the quality of life for people in developing countries as well as the leadership capacities and culture within AEGON itself. His enthusiasm resulted in the first AEGON Leadership Experience in Gambia in 2009, which was build around the need for micro insurances in Gambia. 10 Dutch AEGON managers participated in the program in cooperation with the CEOs of some local insurance companies and
managers of microcredit institutions. Together they developed 3 different micro insurance products that can form an important stimulus for local entrepreneurs in setting up their business.
Quote from one of the AEGON participants:
“This micro insurance program was unique, it helped me to come to the core of poverty reduction, insurance and myself.”
